Frequently asked questions
Click a question to see the answer. Firstly, please consult a licensed qualified healthcare provider regarding your specific circumstances before making any health decisions.
1. What is Vera Scan diagnostic breast CT?
The first FDA-approved non-compression diagnostic, dedicated breast CT, providing true 360° 3D imaging. The scan takes less than 10 seconds after a patient is positioned.
Please know this is not a mammogram. Breast CT is used to provide superior diagnostic imaging. Please consult with your medical provider, who may request information or an order form, both available here: VitalView3D Referral Form.
2. How does the Vera Scan breast CT procedure work?
The patient lies on the table “prone” (face down, on their stomach) and each breast can be scanned individually in seconds, once positioned. A video of the procedure can be found on the Vital View 3D homepage.
3. Why choose Vera Scan diagnostic breast CT?
- No compression. The number 1 reason women give for avoiding breast imaging is the discomfort and pain from compression.
- Ideal for dense breasts, with superior imaging as compared to diagnostic mammography.
- Pre and post breast surgery evaluation, revision.
- Periodic implant review.
- A diagnostic alternative your provider may consider in many situations where an MRI or diagnostic mammogram would otherwise be used.
- Ideal for all diagnostic breast imaging needs.
- True 360° 3D imaging.
- Shorter appointment time.
Also see the VitalView3D Referral Form for more information.
4. Do I still need an ultrasound or any other imaging if I have the Vera Scan diagnostic breast CT?
Your medical provider, or sometimes the radiologist reading your report, may request additional imaging depending on individual circumstances.
5. How can I schedule a Vera Scan diagnostic breast CT?
Washington State regulations require us to have a diagnostic imaging order from a medical provider licensed in Washington State. Please consult your medical provider about your individual circumstances.
Your provider can download the order form here: VitalView3D Referral Form and email or fax it to us. Once we receive it, we will reach out to you to schedule your appointment.
6. What are the FDA-approved uses for Vera Scan?

7. My provider has more questions. How can they find out more?
We are happy to help. Providers can contact us directly by phone at (425) 500-6228 or email info@vitalview3d.com.
Another great resource for providers is Koning Health Breast CT Information.
8. Is Vera Scan breast CT covered by insurance?
We’re unable to bill insurance directly. Please check with your individual insurance plan to determine coverage for your individual circumstances and medical need.
Also: Washington State has implemented legislation for diagnostic breast imaging. We’ve included information which may be helpful for you or someone you know seeking coverage for medically necessary supplemental or diagnostic breast imaging, depending on their individual circumstances.
Starting January 1, 2024, under Washington State’s breast imaging law, RCW 48.43.076, Washington State-regulated health plans issued or renewed on or after January 1, 2024 may not apply cost-sharing (copay, deductible or coinsurance) when:
- A diagnostic exam is needed to evaluate an abnormality found on a screening mammogram or by other means.
- A patient needs supplemental screening due to higher risk (e.g., dense breasts, personal or family history).
Please note: the law names mammography, 3D mammography (tomosynthesis), breast MRI and ultrasound; it does not specifically name breast CT, so please ask your plan how it treats a breast CT ordered by your provider. If you have a high-deductible plan with a health savings account (HSA), a small cost share may still apply.
